Why would my child need dental surgery?
Dentists recommend dental surgery when a child’s treatment is too significant for the office, potentially too painful, or too long for a young child to sit still safely. With your child safely asleep, the dentist can finish the work in one appointment instead of several return visits.
What is pediatric dental surgery?
Pediatric dental surgery, often called sleep dentistry, means dental treatment is done while a child is under general anesthesia. Once your child is asleep, the dentist takes new x-rays and completes all the necessary treatment, usually fillings, crowns, and extractions of baby teeth.
How referrals work
Children must first be evaluated by a Children’s Dental Surgery-affiliated dentist before a procedure is scheduled. Once the referral is made, a treatment coordinator schedules the procedure date.
